The Fort Calhoun girls wrestling team competed between two mats hosting Yutan Invitational boys bouts Thursday afternoon.
On the middle mat, coach Lilly Gossman's Pioneers fell just short against the hometown Chieftain girls, 34-30. Before the boys tournament officially started, though, FCHS bested Omaha Burke 42-24 during its first dual of the triangular.
Both Beckah Gossman and Annaleigh McLaughlin went 2-0 in contested matches in Yutan. Gossman notched a 39-second pin against Burke's 145-pounder before closing out her match against the Chieftains in 2:51 with another fall.
McLaughlin, meanwhile, secured two pins at 105 pounds. Her pin against the Bulldogs took 36 seconds to accomplish before she stopped her Yutan opponent during the first period, too.
FCHS' Ali Dill and Aundrea Gutierrez earned their own Thursday afternoon victories as well. Dill pinned Burke's Elena Salazar in 1:53 at 125 pounds before Gutierrez bounced back from a loss to a Bulldog with a second period-pin of Yutan 115-pounder Harley Wilder.
Two days later, the Pioneers were back on the road.
