FCHS girls drop tight basketball game at DC West

Bench scores game-high 17 in loss

The Fort Calhoun girls basketball team made a late push, but the Douglas County West Falcons earned a 45-42 home win.
The Pioneers outscored the Falcons 13-8 during the fourth period, cutting their deficit to as little as one in the final minute. Coach Marty Plum's team fell to 1-3, though, with its second single-digit loss of the young season.
Junior Bria Bench led FCHS with a game-high 17 points. She had 11 during the 14-14 first period, knocking down five shots from the field.
Dala Drowne, meanwhile, scored eight points in defeat. No. 24 tallied during six during the fourth, while freshman Jovi Greiner scored seven for the game.
The Pioneers next play 7:30 p.m. today against Yutan. The home game comes on Youth Dance Night.
