FCHS girls basketball wins at Concordia, boys lose

The Fort Calhoun basketball teams traveled to Omaha Concordia on Monday, splitting the varsity girls and boys games.
The Pioneer girls improved to 1-2 with a road win, while the boys dropped to 2-1.

Girls win, 44-35
Dala Drowne started her senior basketball season with 11 points across two games, but broke out for 19 in her third as the Fort Calhoun Pioneers won at Omaha Concordia, 44-35.
The FCHS 12th-grader scored eight points during the 19-15 first half before hitting a 3-pointer in the third period. She then made four 2-points buckets during the fourth as coach Marty Plum's squad closed out its first win of the season after an 0-2 start.
Junior Bria Bench added 14 points for the Pioneers, contributing eight alongside Drowne in the fourth with a 3-point make as well. Kaylee Taylor added five points for the game, Jovi Greiner had four and Ella Bouwman scored two, too.
The Mustangs' Amelia Dieckman, meanwhile, tallied a game-high 23 points in a losing effort. Her Concordia squad dropped to 1-2.
Calhoun next plays 6 p.m. today at Douglas County West.

Concordia boys win by 25
The Concordia boys handed Fort Calhoun its first loss of the season Tuesday, 62-37.
The Pioneers managed just four first-period points and were outscored 21-13 during the second. They eventually won the third 12-11, but the Mustangs won comfortably all the same.
Austin Welchert and Wyatt Appel scored nine points apiece to lead FCHS, while Travis Skelton and Grayson Bouwman each added six.
Six-foot Kyle Schneider was a catalyst for Concordia's early offensive success, hitting five first-half 3-pointers. The Mustangs improved to 2-0 with the win.
FCHS next competes today at Douglas County West. The boys game will start after the conclusion of the varsity girls' contest.
