FCHS girls advance onto NCC semifinals

Win was basketball team's 12th of the season

The Fort Calhoun girls basketball team earned its spot in the Nebraska Capitol Conference (NCC) Tournament semifinals Monday with a 68-44 home win.
The third-seeded Pioneers topped No. 6 Douglas County West, improving to 12-4 on the season. Coach Marty Plum's team was to play Arlington on Thursday with the winner advancing onto the 4:30 p.m. NCC championship game Saturday at FCHS. The loser, meanwhile, would play for third at 1 p.m.
Against DC West, however, Raeann Massey scored a team-best 17 points for the Pioneers. The freshman had 10 first-half points and made her third 3-pointer of the game during the fourth quarter.
Ansley Elofson, meanwhile, finished with 14 points and Maelie Nelson had 12 in the win.
Grace Holm led the visiting Falcons with 11 points in defeat.
