All-American award recipients Anna Mallory and Macie Collins led the Fort Calhoun High School dance team last month during a UDA dance team camp in Lincoln.
Collectively, the Pioneers earned a superior trophy and a nationals bid to Orlando, Fla., during the June event, according to coach Miranda Weingaertner.
FCHS was able to practice just four times prior to the camp, but worked on its skills from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a few meal breaks in-between during it. Mallory and Collins are returning members of the Pioneers' roster and took it upon themselves to go for All-American status, which they earned through extra work and routine preparation.
“Anna and Macie are both returners and great girls for the freshmen to look up to,” Weigaertner said, explaining the UDA All-American process. “They are both sharp, energetic and fun to watch as dancers.”
The Fort Calhoun team has plenty of performances ahead during the 2024-25 school year.
“I’m looking forward to watching the team grow,” Weigaertner said. “We lost five strong seniors after last year and gained four freshmen this year. I am excited to see the progress with such a young team! We will continue to compete, but we aren’t quite sure what our competition season will entail this year yet.”
