Every Fort Calhoun High School boy to compete during the Phil & Pat Pisale Wrestling Invite at Omaha Northwest earned at least one win Saturday.
Each one of those Pioneers secured a top-six finish, too, as FCHS topped the team standings with 170 points. South Sioux City was second with 159.5 during the nine-team tournament.
Altogether, Calhoun boys earned 29 pins with two wrestlers — Merritt Olberding and Fred Altstadt — claiming weight class championships. Olberding — who scored a team-best 55 match points Saturday — was 5-0 at 120 pounds, earning four pins and a 17-2 technical fall against Omaha South's Alexis Loarca, who finished the day with a 14-5 record.
Altstadt, meanwhile, pinned his way all the way through the 144-pound division, taking just 9:50 across five matches to do it. He was 3-0 with three pins during the first three rounds before earning a fall apiece against both Omaha Northwest's Angelo Sanchez and Dylan Janik of Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson in championship bracket bouts. The semifinal with Sanchez lasted just 60 seconds before the 3-minute, 34-second final with Janik.
FCHS' Presley Olberding and Alex Schuler each finished just a win shy of weight class titles at Northwest as well. Olberding was 4-1 at 126 pounds with three pins and a 20-3 technical fall, while Schuler earned a 3-1 mark at 190 pounds with three pins, including a 36-second effort against Omaha Roncalli's Drew Hayford.
Fort Calhoun's Luas DeMilt (3-2 in contested matches Saturday) and Ray Caruso (2-2) earned third in the their weight classes, too, while Rocco Ruma (2-2), Levi Lasher (2-1), Seth Waters (2-3) and TJ DeMilt (2-2) secured fourth-place showings. Waters' 30-second pin of Northwest's Dustyn Bratton was his team's shortest match win of the day.
Nathan Duros (3-2) added three Pioneer victories at 215 pounds for fifth, too, as Beau Ruma (1-3) earned sixth at 165.
FCHS next competes 4 p.m. Thursday at the Yutan Invitational.
