Pioneer girls improve to 10-3, too

The Fort Calhoun boys basketball team ran its season-best winning streak to three games Tuesday with a 10-point home victory.
Coach TJ O'Connor's Pioneers topped Louisville 47-37, improving to 5-7 overall.
“We played very well defensively as a team and hit big shots late,” he said.
FCHS led 31-28 through three periods, but put the game away with a 16-point fourth quarter. Travis Skelton hit two of his three 3-pointers during the final 8 minutes, finishing with a team-best 13 points for the game.
The Pioneers' Kade Foy added a fourth-quarter long-range make as well, closing out the Nebraska Capitol Conference matchup with 10 points total. Dylan Keyser and Eli Tinkham added nine and seven points, respectively, while both Blake Welchert and Adam Elofson scored four.
The Lions' Jase Ostblom led all scorers with 15 points, but his team fell to 5-7 in defeat.
Fort Calhoun was set to face Mead on Thursday and next plays at Omaha Brownell-Talbot on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

FCHS girls pick up 10th win
The Fort Calhoun girls basketball team jumped out to a 17-6 lead through one period and won at home Tuesday, 51-33.
The 18-point victory against the Louisville Lions was the Pioneers' 10th of the season. After an 0-3 stretch Jan. 4-9, coach Eric Jones' team has won two games in a row.
Raeann Massey led FCHS with 13 points during its latest win, sinking her squad's two 3-point makes. Ansley Elofson scored nine points, too, while Jovi Grenier, Ari Nelson and Ella Bouwman all added six apiece.
Carly Haun, meanwhile, led the Lions with 13 points in defeat. Her team is 5-8, while the Pioneers improved to 10-3 overall. Coach Jones' roster next plays 5 p.m. Monday at Omaha Brownell-Talbot.
