The Fort Calhoun High School baseball team is 7-9 overall this season, having won four of its last five games.
Coach Roy Prauner's Pioneers won two of the those contest Thursday and Friday on the road against Raymond Central and South Sioux City.
First, FCHS traveled to Valparaiso and beat the Mustangs, 7-5. Coach Prauner's team scored six runs during the top of the sixth inning, and added a seventh in the seventh as insurance, to produce its sixth victory of the season.
Senior Declyn Otte earned the win on the mound, pitching seven innings and striking out five batters, including the last one he faced. Just three of the five runs the hurler allowed were earned.
Otte and Eric Koterba had success in the batter's box against the Mustangs, too. Both Fort Calhoun ballplayers notched RBI doubles in the win.
On Friday, the Pioneers knocked off 9-8 South Sioux City on the road, 4-3. Sam Genoways earned the pitching win, holding the Cardinals — who started the season 9-3 — without a run until the bottom of the sixth frame.
FCHS, meanwhile, built its lead form the first inning on. It scored one run during the opening frame, two more in the second and what wound up the winning run during the sixth.
Carter Christensen led off the second-to-last inning with a walk, advanced to third base on a pair of wild pitches and scored on the third with Koterba in the box. SSC later proceeded to leave two runners on base during the bottom of the seventh frame when Genoways struck out the final batter he faced.
The Pioneers were scheduled to host Plattsmouth on Monday and next compete 4:30 p.m. today at Thurston-Cuming County in Pender.
