The Blair High School golf team finished with 399 strokes Tuesday during the Eastern Midlands Conference Tournament at River Wilds Golf Club.
In other words, “not good,” Bears coach Ross Udey said.
BHS was sixth out of the six scoring teams, finishing 43 swings out of fifth place and 88 behind first-place Norris. The Titans' Carson Thurber and Thomas Hansmeyer both shot the day's low score across 18 holes, 77 strokes.
Senior Easton Chaffee, meanwhile, led Blair with his 10th-place 85.
“They're getting some good scores on holes,” Udey said of his Bears. “They just need to eliminate those really bad scores. That's the only thing they have to do. They have to turn that 12 into a seven or the 11 into a six.”
The coach said he saw plenty of strokes BHS could have avoided Tuesday.
“You can't be playing tennis, hitting it back-and-forth over the green,” he said.
Chaffee took 44 swings on the front nine holes before adding 41 on Nos. 10-18.
Connor Wayman and Tyler Lantry, meanwhile, each shot the Bears' second-best score of the EMC tournament. After starting with 53 and 56 strokes on the back nine, they finished with a 49 and a 46 on the front, respectively.
Blair's Degan Dresden and Landen Oppliger carded a 110 and a 113, too.
“I think they're doing the right things around the greens, they've just got to get more consistent,” Udey said, speaking to his team's overall effort.
The Bears were scheduled to play Thursday at Wayne Country Club and next compete at 3:30 p.m. Monday during a Fremont Bergan quadrangular at Fremont Golf Club.
