The Elkhorn Antlers hosted and bested the Arlington High School wrestling teams in duals competition Tuesday.
Coach Doug Hart's Eagles fell just a win short in the boys' matchup, 40-38, while coach Layne Laaker's girls team dropped its dual 48-30.
Boys claim points in 7 weight classes
Elkhorn and Arlington split 14 weight classes in boys wrestling competition Tuesday, but the Antlers scored the most points.
Even so, the Eagles' Zane Gerrish, Tanner Kyllo, Stokely Lewis and Tate Johannes all earned pins against the Antlers. Gerrish earned the team's first, stopping EHS heavyweight EJ Mataele in 3:22.
From there, it took Kyllo 4:48 to pin his opponent at 150 pounds, while Lewis earned his fall at 175.
Johannes, however, pinned Elkhorn's Trevor Potter in 1:40 — the Eagles' quickest pin on the night.
In addition to its pins, though, AHS' Jake Flesner earned a 10-6 decision against the Antlers' Cooper Sutton at 120 pounds. At 138, Cameron Hancock scored a technical fall for five team points, too.
Tucker Jorgensen, meanwhile, claimed his six Arlington points by forfeit.
Coach Hart's team next competes Saturday at Kearney Catholic during the Stars' annual tourney. Wrestling starts at 9 a.m.
4 Eagles earn wins on the mat
Elkhorn outscored Arlington by 18 team points, but four Eagles still earned contested victories on the mat during Tuesday's dual matchup.
Sophie Lewis (120 pounds), Kelise Krivohlavek (125), Ella Chamberlain (145) and Dianna Flores (190) all earned AHS pins. Lewis' took 74 seconds, while Krivohlavek's match lasted just 27.
Valentina Chavez was able to wrestle Chamberlain for 1:40 before she was pinned, while Flores claimed her fall against Elkhorn's Charlie Nehls in 1:20.
The Eagles' Callee Shearer also claimed six team points Tuesday, but by forfeit.
Coach Laaker's team is scheduled to be back wrestling 1 p.m. today at the Wahoo Invitational before a 9:30 a.m. Saturday tournament at Johnson County Central, too.
