AHS boys win in 3 OTs

Arlington High School's third attempt at playing basketball games in Syracuse this season succeeded.
Two previously scheduled dates were called off due to winter weather, but Saturday's games were contested as planned. The Eagle girls won first, 52-42, before the boys' 63-54 win in three overtimes.
To start, coach Tashia Wolf's squad earned its 13th win of the season in a back-and-forth contest. AHS trailed 15-9 after one quarter, but outscored the Rockets in the second for a 27-27 halftime tally.
The Eagles then led by one after three periods, but ultimately secured the win with a 14-5 fourth. Britt Nielsen led her 13-2 team with 16 points, while Macy Wolf hit five 3-pointers and finished with 15.
Emme Timm had 12 points as well.
Coach Jake Polk's AHS boys won by scoring all nine of their nine-point victory's overtime points.
The Eagles slowed the 54-54 game down during the extra periods, limiting possessions by holding onto the ball during both the first and second overtimes. As a result, neither team tallied a single point until the third OT when Kieryn Grothe made a bucket with 2:40 left in the game. Jaxson Burns and Dallin Franzluebbers — who made the game-tying bucket at the end of regulation to force overtime — scored down the stretch, too, as Arlington improved to 8-6 overall.
Trent Koger, who fouled out of the game, finished with a team-best 18 points for Polk's squad. Franzluebbers had 13 and Grothe scored 12.
