DISTRICT XC UPDATE: FCHS teams, AHS individuals qualify for state

The Arlington and Fort Calhoun cross-country teams competed Wednesday during the Class C-2 District meet at Elkhorn Mount Michael.
Both Fort Calhoun teams and three Arlington runners qualified for the Oct. 24 state championship meet in Kearney as a result. Those races start with the 12:30 p.m. boys race at Kearney Country Club.
The Fort Calhoun boys secured the C-2 District title with Chris Post-Whiteowl earning second overall in 17:09.6. Will Dennis was next in fourth ahead of eighth-place Merritt Olberding and ninth-place Sean Waters.
Seth Waters was 12th and Maddox Nelson earned 16th, too.
The FCHS girls, meanwhile, claimed runner-up honors behind Omaha Roncalli. Lauren Lammers was sixth overall in 21:17.8, while Anna McMahon secured seventh and Emma Ochoa-Gomez was 12th.
The Pioneers’ Emily Arena was 14th, Raeann Massey was 16th and Bella McLaughlin secured 22nd.
Arlington’s Neva Bauer, however, was the individual district champion at Mount Michael. The freshman finished 20:26.3, qualifying for state alongside fourth-place teammate Corinne May.
The Eagles were just one spot out of qualifying for state third as a girls team.
The AHS boys, meanwhile, will be represented at the state meet by Ashton Vollmer. He was 10th in 17:45.2, leading the Eagles to a sixth-place postseason effort.
