Nine Washington County boys earned NSAA State Wrestling Championship tournament appearances Saturday during district competition.
Four Blair Bears, three Fort Calhoun Pioneers and two Arlington Eagles will next compete Feb. 15-17 during the state tourney in Omaha at the CHI Health Center. Class B and C boys start matches 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Tannon Bellamy, Tyson Brown, Atticus Dick and Blaise Baughman led coach Erich Warner’s Bears in Aurora during the B-4 District Tournament finish with individual state qualifications. Brown and Dick were district champs, while Baughman and Bellamy took second in their weight classes.
In Grand Island at the B-3 Tournament, Merritt Olberding, Presley Olberding and Gage Nixon claimed state qualifications for Pioneers coach Drew Welchert’s team. Merritt Olberding was first at 106 pounds, while Presley Olberding was third at 113 and Nixon took fourth at 132.
Kolton Gilmore and Braxton Soll qualified in Albion on Saturday, too. They led coach Doug Hart’s Eagles with second- and fourth-place finishes, respectively.
