Thirteen Fort Calhoun and 11 Blair track and field athletes will compete May 21-22 during the NSAA Class B State Championships at Omaha Burke Stadium.
The Pioneers and Bears earned their spots Tuesday during the Class B District 3 Meet at Krantz Field. The FCHS boys finished second in the team standings behind Bennington, while BHS was third.
The Blair girls, meanwhile, took fourth behind Bennington, Columbus Lakeview and Pierce as Calhoun took eighth.
Two Blair school records fell during the meet, while the Pioneers set three. Hayden Daggett — a four event state qualifier — broke the 400-meter dash mark and set the new 1,600 relay mark alongside Chase Cottle, Colin McCabe and Declan McCabe.
The Pioneers’ new 3,200-meter relay record was set by Will Dennis, Merritt Olberding, Chris Post-Whiteowl and Seth Waters first before the 400 relay team — Michael Maxon, Clay Bohnenkamp, Kaiden Rodriguez and Alex Schuler — broke their own.
The FCHS girls’ 1,600 relay team also set its school record, but did not qualify for state. Team members were Maelie Nelson, Bella McLaughlin, Madi Larrick and two-event qualifier Kaylee Taylor.
