The top-seeded Blair High School softball team opened Class B-1 District Tournament play Thursday with a 10-0 rout of Omaha Gross.
With the run-rule victory at the Youth Sports Complex, the Bears next host Elkhorn North in a best-of-three finals matchup with a state tournament berth on the line. The one-day series begins at 11 a.m. Friday.
Against Gross, though, BHS’ Taytum Macholan and Jacy Schueth both homered. Mia McClain and Regan Blattert also notched RBIs before Abby Leggott closed out the game from within the pitching circle.
Coach Jennifer Fangmeier’s Bears played the Elkhorn North Wolves one other time this season, winning 6-3 on Sept. 22. The game was shortened by storms.
Fort Calhoun hosts Freeman
The Fort Calhoun Pioneers will play for their second-straight Class C state qualification on Friday, too.
Coach Mandy Taylor’s team hosts Freeman at noon in another best-of-three series. Should it win two games, FCHS would be making just its second state trip in school history.
