DeSoto to host youth, mobility-impaired turkey hunts

Both set for April

Posted

Annually, the DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge hosts turkey hunts for both youth and mobility impaired hunters. The sessions are set for April 12-13 and April 26-27 this year, respectively.
The youth shotgun turkey hunt is first. Interested Iowa and Nebraska youth hunters are eligible to participate April 12-13 and can apply by sending a letter to DeSoto Refuge, 1434 316th Lane, Missouri Valley, IA 51555 or by sending and email to Parker Ranger Peter Rea at peter_rea@fws.gov. Interested parties are to include their name, address and phone number in the letter or email.
All applications must be received by March 6 for the youth hunt with a random drawing to fill the limited spots to take place March 7.
Mobility-impaired hunters, however, may reach out to Rea by phone (712-388-4803) or by the aforementioned email address to inquire about the April 26-27 hunt, too. DeSoto provides a limited number of accessible hunt blinds for the annual turkey hunt.
