The first highlight of the Blair Dawgs' Dodge County Baseball League season was a diving catch in centerfield by Derek Jorgensen.
The outfielder and his town team started the summer campaign Sunday at Vets Field with a 16-5 loss to the Dodge Diamondbacks, however. The shorthanded Blair team fell behind early and couldn't quite climb back despite five opening-day runs. Player-coach Russ Nelsen said the team will have more players at its disposal as the season continues.
Jacob Garder started on the mound for the Dawgs, while Canton Lippincott and Jorgensen plated runs in defeat.
The Blair town team continues regular season play Sundays and Thursday through July 21. It'll host the North Bend Benders on Sunday at 2 p.m. before returning home 7:30 p.m. June 9 against the Valley Terriers. More Vets Field dates include June 19, July 7, July 17 and July 21.
