It took team efforts throughout Saturday at the Gary Dubbs Relays in Ralston.
All team points were determined through relay and combined efforts, including those claimed by the Blair Bears. Coach Bryan Soukup's girls lineup secured 83 points for second behind Gretna, while the boys took sixth behind Norfolk, Millard South, Lincoln North Star, Bennington and the Dragons.
Altogether, BHS won three track events with two individuals producing top field event results. It won the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:13.58 with Emma Ammon, Jacy Schueth, Haylie Jensen and Ella Donner.
The Bears also swept the two 3,200-meter relay events. Reece Ewoldt, Audie Keeling, Jade Wickwire and Kate Wulf clocked in at 10:16.07, besting second-place Lincoln Northwest by 12.18 seconds.
The 3,200 relay boys — Caleb Funk, Delcan McCabe, Colin McCabe and Chase Cottle — finished in 8:34.92 to win their race. Notably, Cottle and Greta Galbraith produced top finishes individually. Cottle's 6-foot-4 effort in the boys' high jump was good for first, while his teammate, Hayden Dagget, added a 6-2 jump for second. Together with Brogan Steffen, they took second in the meet's format.
Galbraith, however, produced the day's best girls showing in the pole vault. The senior cleared 11 feet, leading teammates Ali Wheeler and Mia McClain to a team victory in the event.
BHS' Braden McGill added the second furthest discus attempt, too. His top effort traveled 146-5.
The Bears finished second two times in track relays as well. Ryleigh Schroeter, Wulf, Wickwire and Allie Czapla finished the distance medley relay in 13:35.26, securing their own runner-up finish.
Czapla played a part in the second-place 6,400-meter relay effort, too. Lainey Bilau, Nadia Davey, Ewoldt and she stopped the clock in 22:53.92, finishing off the first running event of the Ralston Rams' meet.
Additionally, Ammon, Taylor Mostek and Nicki Wendt were collectively second in the triple jump as were Ammon, Hailey Roewert and London Larsen in the high jump.
Blair next competes 10 a.m. Thursday during the Lincoln Northwest Invitational. The meet will have a standard event lineup without as many baton handoffs.
