Blair Volleyball Club and the Blair High School volleyball program teamed up Saturday morning for a first.
Together, they hosted a youth volleyball tournament for teams in grades 3-6 at BHS. The Club's Mary Policky said it was her organization's inaugural event of its kind.
“We're hoping to do it every year and get more teams,” she said. “The goal is to raise money for the high school varsity team.”
The fundraiser is an extension of a working partnership between between Blair Volleyball Club and coach Jess Lansman's team.
“She's been really great to work with,” Lansman said of Policky, noting how they've also orchestrated the Bear Cubs program together during each of the past couple of falls.
“We're just trying to unite the Club with our school, so that it's all one,” the BHS coach added.
Policky believes in the effort.
“She supports us as a club,” she said of Lansman. “It's great to have a feeder program into our Blair program.”
Policky noted how Blair Volleyball Club is up to about 100 participants with the addition of third-, fourth- and fifth-graders in recent years. Altogether, the youth organization has 10 teams.
Many of those volleyball squads played Saturday morning at the home of the varsity Blair Bears.
“It's awesome to see the youth and get them excited to play in front of their home crowd,” Lansman said.
