Eagles hosted youth camp last week

New Arlington High School head coach Stacy Nelson, her staff and the Eagles led 57 young volleyball players through camp last week at AHS.
The girls in grades 3-8 learned skills and played games on the same court the Eagles will play on this fall.
“A joy of volleyball through playing,” Nelson said July 13, describing the camp's mission for the week. “Getting together with friends and playing a good game.”
The coach, who starred at AHS and played collegiately in the early 2000s, assisted the high school team in recent years underneath Katarina Nelson. The Eagles went 14-12 in 2021, but will look different this August when they begin official practices.
“I'm excited to see the talent that we have,” Nelson said. “We graduated a very big and talented class, but it's also kind of an advantage because nobody's seen some of our underclassmen and the talent they have.”
Anticipation is high.
“It's kind of like having secret weapons nobody knew about,” she said. “I'm excited to put that talent on the court and see what they do.”
Arlington's overall look and style of play is to be determined. Practice will determine it, but not necessarily the team's overall success this fall.
“Ultimately, it's up to how hard the girls work,” Nelson said, campers hitting the ball back-and-forth behind her.
