The Fort Calhoun volleyball team is 10-15 overall after it went 2-3 across its last five matches.
The Pioneers were 1-2 Saturday at Wisner-Pilger's October Classic tournament. They lost matches to Class C1 No. 8 Douglas County West and O'Neill, but bested Winnebago in their last match of the day. The set scores were 25-9 and 25-13.
“We got all of our bench in those two sets, including a couple of girls from JV that were filling in for us today for some missing personnel,” FCHS coach Liz Sevcik said. “They got to put up a couple of stats, so that was fun for everyone.”
The Pioneers lost their match with the No. 8 Falcons 25-14, 25-9, but played a tight, three-set match with O'Neill — 20-25, 25-19 and 29-17. Sevcik said her squad was “well-matched” with the Eagles.
Fort Calhoun was scheduled to compete in a Nebraska Capitol Conference Tournament match against Arlington on Monday. The tourney continues through next Saturday's championship match.

FCHS splits matches at Louisville
The Pioneers played two matches Thursday at Louisville, too, going 1-1 against the host Lions and the Yutan Chieftains.
First, FCHS beat the home team 22-25, 25-22 and 25-19. It then lost to the 21-4 Yutan squad 25-23, 25-15.
Coach Sevcik was complimentary of several of her Pioneers in Louisville.
“Maddy Tinkham started for us tonight and did a great job serving,” she said. “Shelby (Dorau) did a great job playing net and getting some blocks for us.”
The coach also noted Raegen Wells' swings from multiple positions on the floor and Tilden Nottlemann's serving prowess.
