Fort Calhoun's potential game-tying 3-pointer missed during the final seconds of Tuesday's overtime boys basketball matchup in Nebraska City.
As a result, the hometown Pioneers earned just their third win of the season, 68-65, against coach TJ O'Connor's 9-10 team. Class B Nebraska City previously defeated Council Bluffs Lewis Central on Dec. 19 and winless Falls City on Jan. 23.
FCHS, meanwhile, hadn't lost a game to a team worse than 10-10 prior to Tuesday. It led the purple Pioneers 18-17 after one period, but was forced to fight back from nine points down through three quarters to force overtime.
It did, but Nebraska City ultimately secured both teams' desired result.
Travis Skelton led Calhoun in defeat, scoring a game-high 21 points with six 3-point makes. Eli Tinkham, meanwhile, hit two overtime 3s and finished with 10 points.
The Pioneers' Adam Elofson and Blake Welchert added nine and eight points, respectively.
Nebraska City's Brayden Earll led his team with 14 points, while both Mitchell Hodges and Caleb Walker scored 13.
Fort Calhoun was scheduled to play Tekamah-Herman on Thursday and next competes 7:30 p.m. today at Raymond Central. The Pioneers' regular season finale is Feb. 21 against North Bend Central.
