The hometown Louisville Lions made their push Thursday during a 16-point third period, but the Fort Calhoun boys basketball squad earned the low-scoring road victory, 42-29.
The Pioneers improved to 10-2 on the season despite their lowest point total of the 2023-24 campaign. The 29 points they held the 5-8 Lions to were also the lowest coach TJ O'Connor's squad has given up this season.
“Big road win in conference,” the coach said.
FCHS led 20-10 at halftime and maintained an eight-point advantage going into the fourth quarter. From there, Grayson Bouwman scored six points from the foul line and Colby Bentley added a bucket for a 13-point victory.
Bouwman, a senior guard, led the Calhoun with 19 points overall. Declyn Otte added nine, while Bentley finished with eight points, respectively.
“Declyn Otte was terrific. Made big plays for us,” O'Connor said. “Grayson battled through physical holding game.”
Cash Blesterfield, meanwhile, scored 11 points for Louisville in defeat.
FCHS was scheduled to play Omaha Brownell-Talbot on Monday and next competes today against Omaha Concordia. The varsity boys home matchup tentatively begins at 7:30 p.m.
