The Blair High School boys wrestling team bounced back from a 1-4 first day at the Flatwater Fracas to earn 13th overall Saturday in Grand Island.
Competing at the Heartland Events Center, the Bears won three-straight duals against the Grand Island junior varsity lineup, Smith Center (Kan.) and Schuyler to finish 4-4 overall during the two-day event. Coach Erich Warner's team beat those squads 53-28, 47-24 and 47-36, respectively.
On Dec. 20, however, BHS struggled against Kearney (62-12), Lincoln Southeast (49-30), Norfolk (66-8) and Doniphan-Trumbull (47-34). It did best Schuyler, however, 51-28.
Senior Hudson Loges led the Bears in Grand Island with a 7-0 tournament record across contested matchups. The 138-pounder secured four of those victories by technical fall and two more by pin. He also earned a 7-0 decision win against Kearney's Kaedun Goodman.
Blaise Baughman earned five wins during the Fracas, too, going 5-1 overall. The 215-pounder earned all of his wins by pin and suffered his only loss by 5-4 decision to Norfolk's Jaeden Thompson.
Jaxon Logan, meanwhile, went 4-2 at 144 and 150 pounds. The Bear secured two pins and a tech with one of the falls taking just 14 seconds to earn.
BHS' Trevor Furchert — who was 3-2 with two technical falls — Wyatt Loftis (3-4), Griffin Rosterman (3-3) and Cornez Tucker Jr. (3-3) earned three victories apiece, too, while both Tannon Bellamy and Landon Bernasek went 2-0. Carson Faue secured two wins across eight matches, too, earning one pin in 14 seconds.
The Bears' Michael Cleary (1-1), Noah Keough (1-7) and Aaden Reinders (1-1) added a contested victory apiece in Grand Island as well.
Coach Warner's team next competes noon Jan. 2 at an Underwood, Iowa, triangular. Blair then hosts a 10 a.m. Border Brawl on Jan. 4. Teams from both Nebraska and Iowa will compete on the Bears' mats during the tourney.
