The Blair Swim Team capped its first week of practice Friday at the Blair Public Pool.
New coach Ayden Dick said her young swimmers learned what the team is all about over their first few morning sessions together. About the work and the fun.
“I'm extremely excited,” Dick said. “I've never been a coach before, but I have been in the Swim Team family for a very, very long time.”
She swam for 10 years and learned skills from her mother, who also used to coach. The 2021 Blair High School graduate also has experience teaching YMCA and private swimming lessons as well.
“I love getting to see the kids every single day and helping them become better,” Dick said.
In preparation for their season, the Blair swimmers capped their Friday practice with backstroke laps. They also had a chance to go off of the diving board for fun ahead of the June 25th opening meet. Competitions are also set for June 28, July 2 and July 9 before the home conference swim meet on July 16, Dick said.
Thoughout the season, the coach wants to pass on the mindset that, “Even if they don't think they can, they can.”
Improvement comes with work — and fun — in the pool.
“You can get better,” Dick said. “It just takes practice.”
