Blair High School girls soccer coach Nick Hall wants to see the ball hit the back of the net as much as possible.
“I mean, we scored seven goals tonight, but I'd always like more,” he said Tuesday after a 7-0 victory against Plattsmouth at Krantz Field. The win pushed his sixth-ranked Class B Bears to 9-0, while the Blue Devils dropped to 3-3.
“They like to play the game,” Hall said, describing his team's best quality. “That's the biggest thing.”
BHS dominated Plattsmouth from the start, scoring its first goal during the opening minute when freshman Kaitlynn O'Neil capitalized on a Valeria Hernandez pass. It was the first of two O'Neil goals, while junior Brynn Ray also placed two soccer balls into the back of the net.
The Bears' Laynie Brown notched a first-half goal, too, while Claire Anderson and Gueryn Kay scored during the second 40 minutes. Kay's goal was her first of the season in varsity play.
In addition to Hernandez, Blair's Sidney Moeller, Anderson and Ray notched assists. Goalkeeper Regan Blattert, meanwhile, notched her sixth shutout of the season.
BHS has outscored its opposition 42-5 through its first nine matches and next competes Monday during the first round of the Eastern Midlands Conference Tournament. Matchups weren't announced as of press time, but the Bears are 4-0 against conference opponents this spring with wins against Lincoln Northwest, Waverly, Hastings and Elkhorn North.
