Freshman Beau Wendt didn't score a single second-half point Tuesday, but her first-half output was more than enough to propel the Blair girls basketball team to its 11th win of the season.
The 5-foot-7 guard scored 16 points before the intermission, leading her Bears to a 27-14 lead and, eventually, a 47-26 home win against Council Bluffs Lewis Central. Coach Matt Aschoff's team is 11-7 overall.
After the Titans knocked down a 3-pointer on their first possession, BHS controlled the game on the scoreboard. Kate Wulf produced the home team's first points from the foul line and earned its first lead on a layup as Ally Sullivan recorded an assist.
Wendt then scored her first bucket at 6-3 before knocking down the first of her two 3-pointers at 9-7. Hayden Frink-Mathis and Cadence Field scored two points apiece the rest of the way during the first period, giving the Bears a 13-7 advantage going into the second.
The lead grew from there.
Wendt turned multiple Lewis Central turnovers into points during the second quarter. She also knocked down her second 3-pointer, pushing Blair's lead to 21-12.
Wulf, who scored eight points Tuesday, sank a long-range corner shot next, pushing the Bears' advantage to 12 points. It hit 15 points, too, when Wendt scored a 2-point bucket through a foul and made the subsequent free throw.
Field, meanwhile, was BHS' most prolific scorer of the second half, totaling five of seven points after the break. Claire Anderson and Taytum Macholan scored four points each during the win, too, while Frink-Mathis totaled three from the foul line.
Sullivan hit a fourth-quarter 3-pointer as well, while Madeline Chikos made two free throws for the game. The hoopers' team next plays at home 1 p.m. Saturday against Seward.
