Bears beat Plattsmouth, Lewis Central

The Blair girls basketball team dominated Plattsmouth on Friday, 54-15.
Before they won a 50-36 game with Council Bluffs Lewis Central on Saturday, the Bears (4-1 overall) jumped out to a 27-3 first-period lead against the Devils. Joslyn Policky's bucket at 20-3 highlighted the quarter.
To start the scoring play, BHS gathered up a loose ball on defense and sent it up court. The heave to Kaitlyn Johnson was long, but she tracked it down and saved it from going out of bounds with a no-look pass back to Policky.
“KJ's a good teammate. They're all good teammates,” the junior said. “When you have that, it makes playing a lot more fun and easier.”
She caught the pass from Johnson and scored it during what would become a 32-0 Blair run.
“We really focused and practiced on sharing the ball, and bringing the energy,” Policky said. “So, we brought it from the start.”
The Bears forward finished with a team-best 14 points, while Addie Sullivan notched 13, including nine during the first period. Hayden Frink-Mathis scored 11 points, too, as her team improved to 3-1 before Saturday's matchup with Lewis Central.
The Friday night win was BHS' first game after its first loss of the season to Class B No. 4 Waverly.
“That was a good game for us because it pushed us,” Policky said. “Now we know what to work on.”

Bears topple Titans
Johnson's team beat Lewis Central by 14 a day later, 50-36. She led all scorers with 17 points, knocking down five 3-pointers for the hometown Bears, according to BSDN Live's Brian Abrahams.
BHS led 18-10 after one period, 24-20 at halftime and 43-27 after three quarters when they outscored the visiting Titans by 12 in the 8 minutes following the break.
Sullivan added 12 points for the victors, while Leah Chance had 11, too.
Lucy Scott led Lewis Central with eight points.
The Bears next play today at Schuyler. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
