The Blair Bears won for the first time since Dec. 29 on Tuesday, beating the same team it topped that day last month during the Eastern Midlands Conference Tournament — Lincoln Northwest.
The 54-36 boys basketball victory was made even better by Senior Night festivities for Crayton Macholan, Ben Holcomb, Nate Wachter, and managers Tailyn Anderson and Ana Dasa.
“Senior Night definitely adds to it,” Holcomb said. “But, it's always good to beat a team by as much as we did. It was a good environment tonight.”
The Bears knocked off the Falcons by 11 points in the team's first meeting, but won by 18 Tuesday with a 14-point showing by Macholan. He scored eight second-quarter points as BHS built a 25-12 advantage.
“We had way too many turnovers, but we thought that, when we played good, we started actually grooving and playing the way we should be playing,” Holcomb said.
He had eight points, too, while sophomore Bo Meier scored eight. Cooper Sorensen finished with seven as well.
Jaymi White-Soto, meanwhile, led Northwest with 13 points in defeat. The Falcons dropped to 1-12 with the loss as coach Chris Whitwer's Bears improved to 6-7. Tuesday's home team was scheduled to compete against Elkhorn North on Thursday and next plays Tuesday at Council Bluffs Lewis Central.
