Blair basketball struggles with ranked Wahoo teams

Bears go 0-for-2 on the road

Two second-ranked Wahoo Warrior basketball teams knocked off a pair of Blair Bear lineups Tuesday.
The Class C1 No. 2 Warrior girls bested coach Matt Aschoff's Class B No. 7 Bears, 43-26, while the No. 2 Wahoo boys beat coach Chris Whitwer's BHS squad, 56-40. The losses dropped Blair's basketball teams to 10-2 and 6-5, respectively.

Girls struggle offensively
Before Tuesday, the Blair girls' lowest single-game scoring output of the season was 43 points Jan. 4 against Fremont Bergan.
On Tuesday at Wahoo, coach Aschoff's Bears weren't awarded a single foul shot and totaled just 26 points. They led 7-6 after one period, but fell behind 18-13 at halftime and lost by 17.
The No. 2 Warriors, meanwhile, were 5-for-9 from the free-throw line. They accumulated just three team fouls of their own for the game.
Makayla Baughman led Blair with 14 points, while Molly Ladwig added six. Autumn Iversen led Wahoo with 14 points as Sammy Leu notched 13.
BHS next plays 6 p.m. today at Norris.

Boys' score big 3rd, fall
The Blair boys basketball team battled back with a 21-point third period, but lost Tuesday at No. 2 Wahoo, 56-40.
The Bears trailed 32-14 at halftime, cut their deficit to just nine after third quarters and still lost by 16 after just a five-point fourth. Luke Ladwig led the road team with 10 points, while both Kip Tupa and Greyson Kay notched eight.
Benji Nelson led the host Warriors with 12 points, while Garrett Grandgenett and Marcus Glock had 10 points apiece. Their team improved to 10-1 with the win.
BHS next plays 7:30 p.m. today at Norris.
