Billy L. Booton, age 87 of Blair, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on June 8, 2023, at Josie Harper Hospice House, after struggling with kidney disease for 35 years.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, June 15, 2023, at First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m..
Billy was born in Audubon, Iowa, on Jan. 15, 1936, to Charles and Lois (Williamson) Booton. After his first few years of life, the family settled in Blair, where he attended school and graduated from Blair High School. He met and married Helen (Gunsolley) Booton on Jan. 9, 1955, in Plattsmouth.
Many people knew Billy from his long tenure as manager of the Blair Bootery in downtown Blair. He loved selling shoes and enjoyed visiting with many longtime customers. He continued in the shoe sales business until his retirement at 72.
Bill enjoyed a good conversation and a good joke. He worked the puzzles in the newspaper daily and was a mean Jeopardy player. He also enjoyed sports of all kinds and coached Little League for 11 years. Bill was proud of his family that had grown to include grandchildren and great grandchildren. He took pride in all their accomplishments.
Bill is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen Booton; daughter Kathleen of Blair; daughters-in-law: Melanie Booton and Sue Valker; sister Barbara Chrisman; grandchildren: Dreyson (Jillian) Solano, Aubryna Booton, Ciaran (Adolph) Overstreet, Claire Booton (Barrett Foley), and Parker Booton; great grandchildren: Allorah and Roslyn Solano, Malia and Landon Overstreet and Jermal Clark; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather Darwin Soll; sisters: Joyce Hutchinson and Janyce Ireland; sons: Steven and Timothy Booton; grandson Berek Solano.
Memorials may be directed to the Blair Rescue Squad or Josie Harper Hospice House.
