Coach Terry Bellamy's Bears completed their clean sweep of the Eastern Midlands Conference (EMC) on Saturday afternoon.
The Blair girls wrestling team dominated the individual tournament at Elkhorn High School, outscoring the second-place Antlers 208.5-134. BHS also won the EMC dual event Jan. 11 at Gretna East.
On Saturday, though, Bellamy's Bears won half of the 14 weight classes rather than having to claim duals with their conference opposition. Siena Smith (105 pounds), Ali Wheeler (115), Katie Wheeler (120), Jaslyn Raymond (135), Jo Inget (140), Applelynn Berryman (145) and Reata Malmberg (190) all topped the podium.
Smith went 3-0, securing three pins, while Ali Wheeler earned the same mark. The 115-pounder took just 2:29 to finish all of her matches by fall.
At 120 pounds, Katie Wheeler earned three pins with a fourth win by medical forfeit. The 31-10 wrestler bested 41-13 Kaitlyn Kos of Bennington by pin during the final round.
Raymond and Inget secured their EMC titles with two pins apiece. Inget notched the quickest, finishing her match with Lincoln Standing Bear's Hailey Schroeder in 47 seconds.
Berryman improved to 10-2 this season with three conference wins by pin, too.
Malmberg, though, earned four pins at 235 pounds. The EMC champ beat Norris' Londyn Youngs, Waverly's Payton Neeman, Talia Beattie of Grenta and Elkhorn's Charli Nehls to improve to 23-14 overall.
Bears Emma Himes (100 pounds), Emma Belnog (130) and Kara Rodriguez (155) added second-place efforts, too, while Leah James (110) and Bella Borges (125) were third during conference competition in Elkhorn. Lily Warren finished fourth at 170 pounds as well.
BHS next competes at a junior varsity tournament in Schuyler on Thursday before Saturday's Class A-1 District Tournament at Crete.
Bears go 3-0 at quad
BHS warmed up for the EMC Tournament with a 3-0 sweep through quadrangular matches at Millard West on Thursday. The Bears beat the host Wildcats 45-34, Gretna 72-6 and Omaha Skutt 57-18.
Against Millard West, Ali Wheeler, Katie Wheeler, Borges, Belnog, Berryman and Rodriguez all earned contested victories. Rodriguez and Belnog took just 25 and 28 seconds for their pins, respectively, while Berryman won the lone match to go all 6 minutes, 8-3.
The 66-point win against the Dragons, meanwhile, took five contested match wins. Ali Wheeler, Raymond, Berryman, Rodriguez and Malmberg claimed all five of those victories by fall. Raymond's took a dual-low 36 seconds.
BHS, meanwhile, went 3-3 against Skutt. It won handily, however, with a more complete lineup.
Emma Himes secured a pin at 100 pounds against the Skyhawks, while Ali Wheeler did the same at 115. Borges secured a 9-2 decision at 125, too.
