The Blair High School girls basketball team is officially 2-0 even after dropping its preseason exhibition game against Arlington on Nov. 21.
“It was good to see what we needed to improve on in practice after Arlington,” sophomore starter Addie Sullivan said Saturday at the conclusion of a 63-9 home win against Ralston. “We were very focused and we worked on bringing energy right away which definitely helped in our last two games.”
The Bears won their first two regular season contests by a combined score of 111-20. Saturday's 54-point victory began with a 28-0 run. The Rams didn't score until just 4:07 was left before halftime.
Sullivan said coach Matt Aschoff's squad has learned from its mistakes as its prepared for the new season.
“We're all just super-coachable, which is another thing that helps bring the team together,” she noted.
Sullivan scored a game-high 17 points against Ralston, scoring seven straight at one point during the 23-0 first period.
BHS senior Kaitlyn Johnson, meanwhile, notched 11 points with a made 3-pointer. Joslyn Policky had nine points, and both Ally Sullivan and Leah Chance had six as 10 Bears scored for the second-straight outing.
Next, Blair plays at Eastern Midlands Conference foe, Waverly. The game tips off today at 5:30 p.m.
“We know Waverly will be really tough,” Addie Sullivan said. “So, we're going to have to play with intensity and energy like we have been, but we're going to have to be also really focused, disciplined and coachable if we want to beat Waverly.”

Bears win opener
Coach Aschoff appreciated Blair's effort and energy during its 48-11 season-opening win against Omaha Mercy on Thursday, too.
“Offensively, we moved the ball better and didn't settle for bad shots. Got to the basket more,” he said.
“Defensively, the press helped and we communicated a lot better.”
The Bears jumped out to a 25-2 first-period lead and cruised from there against their outmatched opposition. Sullivan led the way with 15 first-half points, while Sophia Wrich notched seven total and Policky had six.
In total, 10 Blair players scored during the 37-point point victory.
