The Blair High School baseball team made a late push, but it couldn't come back to beat Beatrice at Vets Field on Monday.
The Bears lost 6-4, dropping to 2-7 overall. The Orangemen, meanwhile, improved to 5-5, holding off BHS even after coach John Roan's squad scored three sixth-inning runs to close a five-run deficit down to two.
Colton Nixon led Blair in defeat with a double and two RBIs, while Brevin Leggott and Nelson Kosch logged a team-best two hits each. Lucas Matejka doubled and plated a run, too, while Hudson Hamm notched an RBI.
Nathan Murray added a hit as well.
Defensively, Matejka pitched four innings, striking two batters and allowing just one earned run, but six total. Jakob Gaskill threw three scoreless innings, logging two of his own strikeouts, too.
The Bears were set to face Omaha North and Ralston on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, before a weekend tournament in Omaha. Coach Roan's squad plays Omaha Skutt at Omaha Westview today at 5 p.m. before Saturday's 11 a.m. matchup with Westview at the Omaha Storm Chasers' Werner Park.
