The Blair boys wrestling team started 3-0 Friday at the Eastern Midlands Conference (EMC) Dual Tournament, but lost its last two matchups to finish third in Waverly.
The host Vikings beat the Bears 29-26 before the champion Bennington Badgers topped coach Erich Warner's squad, 39-29. BHS had last faced the Badgers during the finals of the 2022 Class B state dual tournament, which it also lost.
Before their back-to-back defeats, however, the Bears dominated Elkhorn (73-5), Elkhorn North (56-18) and Norris (69-12) in the first of two EMC tournaments this season. Yoan Camejo, Brock Templar and Hudson Loges were team leaders with unbeaten tourney records.
Camejo, Blair's 160-pounder, went 5-0 with two pins, a major decision and two decisions. He beat Bennington's Dalton Rhoten 4-3.
Templar, meanwhile, went 4-0 in contested matches at 152 pounds. He secured three pins with the fastest coming in just 59 seconds.
Loges was 4-0, too, securing two pins and a technical fall. The 106-pounder also beat Elkhorn North's James Ferguson by 15-8 decision.
The Bears' Kaden Sears added a 4-1 day with three pins and a tech fall, while Jesse Loges was 3-1 with two pins. Tannon Bellamy, Keenan Wyman and Brock Hamm were 3-1 in Waverly, too.
Seagan Packett-Trisdale, Atticus Dick and Tyson Brown added two contested victories apiece as well, while Luke Frost had one. Griffin Rosterman, Jim Rasmussen and Thomas Chikos wrestled EMC opposition Friday, but fell short of victories.
