Bears split wrestling duals at Lakeview

The Blair boys wrestling team won and the girls lost Tuesday at Columbus Lakeview.
Coach Erich Warner's boys improved to 8-0 with a 51-16 dual win against the Vikings, while the girls dropped to 1-2 with a 42-36 defeat. BHS' girls were set to compete Thursday in Fairbury as the boys prepared for today's start to the two-day Flatwater Fracas tournament in Grand Island.
On Tuesday night, though, the boys team went 8-3 in contested varsity matches against Lakeview. Kaden Sears and Wyatt Tilson earned pins at 182 and 132 pounds, respectively, while Jesse Loges, Jim Rasmussen and Luke Frost picked up major decisions at 138, 195 and 120.
The Bears' Atticus Dick and Yoan Camejo earned decisions across three, 2-minute periods. Nathan Boswell, meanwhile, won an overtime sudden victory at 145 pounds.
On the girls' side, Blair's Savanah Roan (130 pounds), Josie Biffar (135), Jaysie Garcia-Abalos (155) and Abigail James (170) won contested matches against Lakeview. All four pinned their opponents with James' taking just 45 seconds.
The Bears' Lizzy Flynn, Riley Martin, Seagan Packett-Trisdale, Hudson Loges and Tannon Bellamy all earned six team points on the night, too, claiming forfeits across the two duals. Wyatt Loftis and Trevor Furchert won JV matches against the Vikings as well.

JV competes Monday, too
Nineteen Blair wrestlers competed Monday in Iowa during the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Junior Varsity Tournament as well.
Carson Faue led the Bears' effort, finishing first at 3-0 in his weight class. He scored three pins, including a second-period fall against Hayden Baker of Council Bluffs Lewis Central in the finals.
Carlos Najera-Trevizo, Jase Young, Loftis and AJ Damme reached the championship match of their brackets, too, but finished second. BHS' Jacob Gaskill, Tilson, Brady Thomas and Henry Sullivan took third.
