The Blair High School tennis team earned five victories Thursday during its final tournament of the regular season.
The doubles teams of Ally Sullivan and Abby Leggott, and Hannah Heuton and Lissy Spangler, each went 2-2 to lead the Bears during the Waverly Invite at Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln. They and coach David Christensen's singles-playing BHS athletes next compete 9 a.m. Thursday during the NSAA Class B Girls State Championships back at Woods.
The Bears built toward state, however, against tennis players from Lincoln Christian, Waverly and York in Pool A during the Vikings' tournament. In No. 1 doubles, Sullivan and Leggott went 1-2 against those teams, besting the Lincoln Christian pairing 8-0. They then beat Bennington's duo from Pool B, 8-2, during the crossover round.
Heuton and Spangler, meanwhile, went the same route for their two wins in No. 2 doubles, securing an 8-3 Pool A win against the Crusaders. The Blair pairing then topped the Badgers' team by an 8-6 score.
In singles play, the Bears' Angela Roehrs and Roslyn Solano combined to go 1-7. Solano earned a 9-7 win against Lincoln Christian's Callie Almond in No. 2 singles competition.
Notably, Sullivan and Leggott are BHS' lone players who competed at the Class B state tournament a year ago. They'll return this season after going 1-2 in 2024.
