Class B No. 2 Bennington remained unbeaten Thursday, but the Blair High School boys soccer team played the Badgers much closer in the rematch.
Nine days after a 7-0 loss on the road, the Bears played within 4-1 of their undefeated Eastern Midlands Conference rivals at Krantz Field. Bennington improved to 16-0 with the three-goal win, while coach Curt Scott's squad dropped to 6-6 overall with its third-straight loss.
BHS scored its goal late during the first half when a pair of seniors connected on Senior Night. Trailing 2-0 and in a rush to get a scoring chance before intermission, Riley Wolff booted a long free kick that Crayton Macholan turned into a goal with just 4 seconds to go before the break.
The momentum didn't last, though, as Bennington added a pair of goals during the second half and pulled away for the road win. It is one victory over Waverly away from a perfect regular season.
Blair, meanwhile, plays its regular season finale 5:30 p.m. today at Elkhorn. The match will be the final regular season contest of seniors Ethan Lundgren, Quinn Baedke, Colton Matney, Ryan Gravedoni, Sakuto Yamada, Brady Thomas, Sean Tobin, Macholan and Wolff, who were celebrated at home Thursday night.
