Arlington High School golf coach Cailyn Ross met up with Aspen Smutz after nine holes Monday during the Elmwood-Murdock Invitational.
At that moment, the Eagle “was confident she could break 100,” the coach said.
Sure enough, Smutz delivered AHS' low score of the season, finishing the 18-hole tournament with just 94 strokes. She shot a 46 on the front nine holes and 48 on the back at Grandpa's Woods, finishing 12th overall.
Additionally, Addie Thomas finished with 109 swings, helping her Arlington team finish fifth with 433 total. The Eagle shot a 53 on the front nine holes and carded 56 on the back.
“Addie beat her goal and was proud to keep showing improvement,” Ross said. “We've all been working on short game and confidence.”
AHS' Honora Andreasen added 114 swings, too, while Ally Meyer had 116 and Bella Wilcox finished with 128. The Eagles next compete 9 a.m. Saturday at Oakland Golf Club before they're back in Oakland on Tuesday for district competition.
