The Arlington Senior Legion baseball team is 3-4 overall after its two most-recent Ralph Bishop League games.
After a loss at home Friday night, Post 71 played a makeup game Saturday night at Columbus Lakeview, falling 10-4. Coach TJ Stosich's team scored all four of its runs during the top of the third inning, breaking a 0-0 tie.
According to Lakeview stat-keeping, Luke Sharp first reached base on an error before Tyler Ott walked and Dallin Franzluebbers singled to load the bases. Tanner Kyllo stepped into the batter's box next, walking in the game's first run.
Arlington's Liam Shearer then scored two with a single before Luke Ott's own hit pushed the Post 71 lead to 4-0.
It all went downhill from there for Coach Stosich's team, though. Lakeview scored three runs during the bottom half and took the lead with two more in the fourth frame. The home team scored once more in the fifth and tallied four runs in the sixth inning to win the game by six runs.
A day earlier, a disastrous sixth inning cost Post 71 against Plainview at the Washington County Fairgrounds. The visiting team added run-after-run against Arlington's relief pitching, turning a 1-0 advantage into a 13-0 one in just one half-inning's time.
Grant Monke stepped in and notched a two-RBI bloop single into right field during the bottom half, but it wasn't near enough to even continue the game into the seventh. The run-rule loss was Post 71's third overall defeat in Ralph Bishop League play this season before it picked up its fourth in Columbus.
“There was just kind of a snowball effect between throwing strikes and making plays,” Coach Stosich said after Friday's loss. “When both of those go, then it's hard to get out of an inning.”
Pitcher Jackson Stosich, however, kept Plainview in check before the breakout frame. He ended the first inning by strikeout before Wes Monke reached base twice during the first three innings.
Hitting into an error, Peyton Marfisi reached base during the third, too.
Arlington just didn't make enough progress offensively before Plainview blew up for its 12-run sixth.
On a positive note, Coach Stosich said he was pleased with Grant Monke's efforts behind the plate as a catcher late in the game, but also after his two-run knock to get Post 71 some runs.
“That's a big spot for an eighth-grader,” the coach explained. “And for him come through like he did is exciting.”
