The Arlington Senior Legion baseball team scored two seventh-inning runs Monday, but it was too little too late at Wakefield.
The Post 81 Bullsnakes held onto their 4-2 Ralph Bishop League victory, dropping Post 71's season record to 3-5 overall. The Eagles were scheduled to play Wednesday against Wayne to close out their regular season schedule before the league tourney starts Sunday.
Against Wakefield, though, Arlington gave up three second-inning runs and one more during the fourth before plating its own during the top of the final frame. Dallin Franzluebbers started off the seventh with a leadoff double, according to Post 81 stat-keeping.
After a groundout, Luke Sharp pulled Arlington within 4-1 with another double. Tyler Ott reached base next before Liam Shearer's RBI single cut the visitors' deficit to two runs.
The next Post 71 batter struck out with the tying run on first base before Jack Morgan hit into an error to load the bags. A game-ending fielder's choice, however, ended Arlington's comeback attempt.
The Juniors played in Wakefield on Monday, too, securing a 14-5 road victory. Luke Ott's single scored Post 71's first run before the his squad took the lead for good during the third frame.
