Arlington softball coach Janelle Lorsch couldn't do the Eagles' annual youth camp without her high school athletes.
“(The kids) come to see them,” she said Thursday. “They don't come to see me.”
From May 31 through June 2, 36 youngsters arrived for 4.5 hours of camp instruction from AHS' best and their coaching staff at the Two Rivers Sports Complex. Many of those 36 were newcomers.
“We had a dozen 8U, which is really nice to see come out when they're that young,” Lorsch said. “It's super exciting because they had a great time and they did such a good job.”
The coach, her campers and the Eagles worked on their skills at the plate, fielding and — to finish up — base running with “great” weather, the coach said.
“We had lots of fun,” she said. “We absolutely had lots of fun.”
It's not quite a promise that fun will be had, but it might as well be.
“That's pretty much a guarantee when you come to camp,” Lorsch said. “We're going to have some fun.”
The Arlington softball camp closed with a water balloon toss between the kids before the high school athletes had their own battle back and forth next to the ballfields.
