Arlington, Fort Calhoun wrestle at Weeping Water

Pioneers top Eagles, 42-40

The Arlington and Fort Calhoun wrestling teams met on the mat Tuesday in Weeping Water.
The Pioneers won the all-Washington County boys dual during the Indians' triangular, 42-24, though the Eagles won the majority of the teams' five contested matches. The bouts came after AHS' 57-23 loss to the host team, but before Weeping Water edged FCHS 42-40 in the nightcap.
Against coach Drew Welchert's Pioneers, coach Doug Hart's Eagles won three matches. Trey Hill pinned Louis Diggins in 4:50 at 120 pounds, Tanner Kyllo pinned 126-pounder Gage Nixon in 3:25 and Kolton Gilmore pinned Wesley Short to the mat in 2:58 at 170.
Hill, Brodie Wilkins and Gilmore also earned contested matches with the Indians. Hill wrestled to a 17-2 tech fall, while Wilkins and Gilmore pinned their opposition.
Arlington's Cameron Hancock won a pair of 113-pound junior varsity matches against Weeping Water, too. Both wins came during the first period by pin.
Fort Calhoun, meanwhile, topped AHS with Levi Lasher, Lance Olberding, AJ Duros, Mason Touring and Aidan Garbers all earning six team points apiece by forfeit.
Ely Olberding and and Frederick Altstadt won contested matches with the Eagles, too. Ely pinned Daniel Cook-Krivohlavek at 145 pounds, while Altstadt earned a first-period, 160-pound fall against Wilkins.
Though the Pioneers officially lost to Weeping Water, they dominated in contested matches, winning six of seven. Lasher (132 pounds), Lance Olberding (138), Ely Olberding (145), Duros (152), Altstadt (160) and Touring (heavyweight) all earned victories. Lasher's, an 18-5 major decision, was the only one of the six to go the distance.
FCHS' Matthew Kelly also claimed a junior varsity win against the hosts of Tuesday's triangular.
The Arlington boys and girls teams next compete 10 a.m. Saturday at North Bend Central, while Fort Calhoun hosts a 3:30 p.m. JV tournament today before a 9 a.m. varsity event Saturday.
