The Platteview boys basketball team started with a one-handed jam and never looked back Monday, besting Arlington 79-34 during the first round of Lincoln Lutheran's holiday tournament.
The Trojans improved to 7-1 with the victory, while coach Jake Polk's Eagles dropped to 2-4. AHS was scheduled to play in Tuesday's third-place game, but — due to early New Year's Day deadlines — results will appear in next week's Citizen edition.
Against the Trojans, though, Arlington fell behind 8-0 just 1:46 into the Monday afternoon ballgame. Schuyler Logemann scored the Eagles' first points from beyond the long-range arc well before Trent Koger sank a 2-point bucket and free throw to pull AHS within 17-13.
From there, though, Platteview got back to dominating. It led just 19-14 after one period, but pushed its lead to 20 points through two quarters. In the end, Sully Vanosdall led five Trojans in double figures with a game-high 18 points.
Logemann, meanwhile, led Arlington in defeat with 14 points. He made two 3-point buckets. Koger added 13 points, too.
After Tuesday's consolation game, the Eagles next play 4 p.m. Saturday at Wisner-Pilger High School.
