Eagles improve to 2-2

Trent Koger was Saturday night's big scorer, but Killian McIntosh didn't do bad either as the Arlington boys basketball team knocked off Omaha Brownell-Talbot at home.
“I was just trying to outscore Oliver,” the senior said as Ladehoff walked by after the Eagles' 57-54 victory. “That was easy tonight.”
Koger had a game-high 27 points, but McIntosh and Ladehoff combined for 19 with McIntosh producing one more than his junior teammate. The end result was the Eagles' second win of the season during a 2-2 start.
Brownell-Talbot, meanwhile, fell to 4-1 in defeat.
After Koger scored 12 points during the opening quarter, he was forced to the bench with foul trouble in the second. Even in his absence, though, AHS held strong and led 31-30 going into the break.
“We had some young kids that were able to step up,” McIntosh said. “Helped us stay on top, keep the lead.”
It was the senior's 3-point shot before the buzzer, however, that made for a positive buzz in the gym as the Eagles honored both their 1925 and 1985 state championship teams. Several members of the '85 team were in attendance for the event.
Once the second half began, though, it was again all about Koger again. He scored 10-straight Arlington points to start the third period before adding seven more points during the fourth.
“We got Trent back and they couldn't really guard him,” McIntosh said. “His height was just unmatched out there.”
He and Owen Ladehoff, Oliver's younger brother, also contributed to the Eagles' big finish, though. Ladehoff's fourth-quarter 3-pointer made the score 47-44 in the home team's advantage before McIntosh's second long-range make of the game pushed a one-point lead out to four.
“We run through it every day in practice,” the senior said. “They always tell me to shoot it, so I figured I've got to sometime.”
Brownell-Talbot had the ball in the final seconds with a chance to tie the game, but failed to do so as Arlington celebrated its second home win of the young season. Coach Jake Polk's Eagles next play 7:30 p.m. today at home against Douglas County West.
