AREA TOURNAMENT UPDATE: County's Legion season ends

Blair Seniors drop Monday game to ETC Black

Posted

The last Washington County Senior Legion baseball team standing lost Monday night during the Class B Area 3 Tournament at Vets Field.
ETC Black Post 211 eliminated Blair Post 154, 10-6. Coach James Bilslend's squad went 2-2 in postseason play overall, dropping last Friday's tourney opener to Arlington, 4-3, but bouncing back with tight wins against Fort Calhoun and Omaha Concordia.
Against the ETC Knights, though, Blair fell behind by four runs through two innings. Post 154's Aiden McBreen plated the first run of the game, but the opposing lineup tallied five runs during the bottom of the second frame to take control.
Coach Bilslend's squad cut its deficit to 5-2 and 7-4 as the game went on, but it couldn't pull any closer. The Knights notched their 10th run on a sixth-inning solo homer and held off the host team during the top of the seventh for the win.
Blair ends the season 19-17 overall, while Fort Calhoun finished up Saturday with a 21-17 mark. Coach Jerry Wellwood's team went 0-2 in Area 3 Tournament play. Coverage of both Post 348 games appears in Tuesday's Washington County Pilot-Tribune edition.
Arlington, meanwhile, upset Blair during the first round of postseason play and finished out its season Sunday with a 1-2 tournament record. Coach TJ Stosich's Post 71 Eagles were 6-10 overall. Coverage of their first two Area 3 games is in Tuesday's Pilot-Tribune, while Sunday's conclusion is set to be published in Friday's Washington County Enterprise edition.
Blair's four postseason games are split between the two newspapers. Its 1-1 start will appear in Tuesday's pages before its 1-1 finish is covered in Friday's.

Full coverage of Washington County's involvement in the Class B Area 3 Tournament will appear in both this week's Washington County Pilot-Tribune and Enterprise editions. See the same coverage online this week at enterprisepub.com/sports.
