Eagles start Lincoln holiday tourney with victory

Junior Emme Timm scored 21 points Monday as the Arlington High School girls basketball team started the Lincoln Lutheran Holiday Tournament with a 26-point victory against Platteview.
The point guard drove to the basket regularly and hit her free throws during the 44-18 win.
“Those guards, you know, they're younger. They're not as experienced as me,” Timm said of her edge against the Trojans. “And I kind of just decided to take advantage of that.”
It worked.
“We scouted that pretty well,” the three-year starter said.
The 6-1 Eagles started the game on an 11-0 run with Timm scoring eight points. Senior Hailey O'Daniel added a 3-point make, too, after Libby Hegemann dove on the floor for a loose ball to extend AHS' offensive possession.
Coach Tashia Wolf's team went onto lead 14-3 after one period and 23-5 at halftime. In addition to Timm's 21 points, Britt Nielsen scored 11 for the game, while O'Daniel finished with five.
Macy Wolf, Lauren Pittman, Valeria Carvajal, Adrianna Mincer and Hayley Arp added Arlington points, too.
The offensive and defensive output all led to a win in the Eagles' first game after the five-day NSAA Moratorium, which prevents teams from practicing and playing games during the holidays. Timm said Arlington came back from its break ready to prepare for Lincoln Lutheran tournament play.
“I think we came in with a lot of energy and we were ready to practice hard,” she said.
The Warriors' four-team tourney continued Tuesday. Due to early New Year's Day deadlines, championship game results will appear in next week's Citizen edition.
AHS is also scheduled to play at Omaha Concordia today at 7 p.m. before Saturday's 2:30 p.m. game at Wisner-Pilger.
