The Arlington High School softball team improved to 6-2 Saturday with a fifth-place finish at a West Point GACC tournament.
After two games were postponed due to extreme heat during the week, the Eagles returned to action with two wins in three games. It lost the first, though, dropping a 9-8 outing against Ponca despite a four-run bottom of the fourth inning — the final frame of the time-limited ballgame.
In its next contest, AHS routed Cuming County 14-3 in four more innings. The Eagles scored three runs during both the first and third innings and four runs apiece during the second and fourth.
Then, in its tourney finale, coach Janelle Lorsch's squad used a six-run second inning to overcome what was a 3-0 Tekamah lead through one frame. The coach said the Eagles executed multiple double plays during the 2-1 tournament run.
Arlington was scheduled to play a makeup game Monday against Logan View and will host Class C No. 2 Ashland-Greenwood today at 6:30 p.m.
