Trent Koger set the Arlington High School boys basketball record for career points Thursday, but it happened to come during the Eagles' final game of the season.
The top-seeded Omaha Concordia Mustangs beat coach Jake Polk's squad in the Class C1-4 Subdistrict Tournament final, 56-38. The loss ended AHS' season at 13-11 overall — it's first winning season since 2021 and just its third in the past 10.
“(Concordia) is skilled. All five guys on the floor can shoot it from 3,” Polk said before adding to his observations. “They're really physical defensively.”
After he scored 29 points during the Eagles' first subdistrict game, a win against Albion Boone Central, the Mustangs held Koger to 19 points Thursday. The 6-foot-7 senior only needed 16, however, to tie Tom Anderson's school record 1,082 career points from 1967 through 1971.
“Our career scoring leader scored six as a freshman,” Polk said, noting how the post player has developed into the standout he is today with 1,092 points. “He's put in a ton of hours on his own and with the team.”
Koger got into foul trouble during Thursday's first half and only scored six points during the first and second periods. His team trailed Concordia 42-14 at the break before he added 13 points during the third and fourth quarters.
“He put up all-state caliber numbers,” Polk said of the senior's season. “When you have a guy that averages 18 points and 12 rebounds, that's irreplaceable.”
The 18-point Eagles loss wasn't just Koger's last game, though. Seniors Schuyler Logemann and Killian McIntosh also played in Arlington colors for the last time on the Mustangs' home floor, notching three points apiece.
Polk said the coaching staff pressured Logemann into his job as the team's primary ballhandler.
“He embraced that role,” the coach said, noting how the guard transformed his body to fulfill it.
Logemann also developed into a consistent 3-point threat during his final prep season.
“We're going to miss that,” Polk said.
McIntosh, meanwhile, set a bunch of screens and chased down rebounds as a senior.
“We're going to miss his junkyard mentality,” Polk said.
The Eagle also made a long-range shot against the Mustangs, though.
“He's really worked on his shooting,” McIntosh's coach said. “Even with a bum shooting shoulder, his goal was to make a 3-pointer in a game at the beginning of the year and I think he's had around 10.”
Polk added how thankful he was to have the three seniors stick around on the team after he took over before last season.
“We appreciate them helping establish the program that we want to build and take the next step going forward,” he said. “They were great role models for our younger guys.”
Junior Oliver Ladehoff added 10 Arlington points in the season-ending loss, while Jack Morgan scored two and Owen Ladehoff had one.
