The Arlington High School girls basketball team didn't get an easy home draw to start the Class C1-5 Subdistrict Tournament on Tuesday night.
“We knew that Wayne was going to be physical, and that we needed to play great team defense,” Eagles coach Tashia Wolf said. “They have some height, which also posed a challenge.”
Arlington (19-4 overall) passed the test, though, winning 53-39 and earning a subdistrict finals matchup Thursday against Pierce. Results from that contest will appear in next week's edition.
On Tuesday, though, the Eagles were already in win-or-go-home mode for their playoff opener.
“The girls played hard,” Wolf said. “They are definitely ready to make a name for themselves in postseason play.”
Senior Britt Nielsen led AHS with 21 points, scoring 14 before halftime. The Eagles built a 29-21 lead on her efforts before outscoring the Blue Devils 24-18 during the second half, too.
Emme Timm added 12 points during the winning effort, while Macy Wolf scored nine and senior Hailey O'Daniel had eight. Guard Libby Hegemann notched three points, too, with a second-period 3-point make.
Haley Kramer, meanwhile, scored 16 points for Wayne in defeat.
